Mastelo

Our best meal yet in Greece! I’d call this modern Greek with a creative twist. What a hidden gem in a cute village square in Katouna. We didn’t have reservations and since it was a rainy day in Lefkada most restaurants were busy. They told us we could have a drink next door if we wanted to wait. We did and in 30 mins we had a table. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service was the best so far in Greece. Probably the 1st time someone circled back to our table to ask us how everything was.. which we are used to in Canada. The food here was fantastic. We had a shrimp ravioli which I highly recommend.. so fresh the pasta was perfect, the sauce is a shrimp broth with herbs and citrus.. so good! My husband had a prime rib and it was cooked perfect medium rare for him. We also had the sheep cheese with tomato jam, some fresh bread, potatoes that were the best we’ve had so far with herbs and pecorino. Definitely not just the regular fried potatoes with no salt you get pretty much everywhere here. It is more expensive then the regular taverna but the food and service calls for it. Everything is definitely made with love and detail.

Amazing restaurant with pleasant atmosphere, discrete music and even better food. First of all, this is not your typical Greek restaurant. It is a more fancy (in the good way) type of place. The type ofplace where you go on a date or out with your family for a cosy dinner. When you see how beautiful the place is you know you should not wear your beach attire :) The dishes are well thought out and you can feel the passion that has been put into the menu and in the cooking process. We enjoyed that we could see the chefs in the open kitchen carefully putting together all the dishes. We enjoyed the calamari, so tender (!) and beautifully cooked as well as the side baba ganoush. The beef - perfectly cooked, moist and as we requested, medium rare. Nice side of vegetables also. The cheese and tomato jam were not planned but we went with the waiter’s recommendation (thank you!) and we ended loving it. Interesting combination of taste and textures. Our only regret was that we were too full to try the desert. Big applause to this chic restaurant, the staff that made you feel welcome and cosy. When we will return to Lefkada we will be sure to make a visit. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We ate at a number of good restaurants across Lefkada but Mastelo easily pipped the post as the best restaurant we experienced (beating other restaurants 3times the price). The food was outstanding as was the service and and atmosphere. Located in the square of a tiny village at the top of the hill, it had all the charm of a hideaway taverna but with beautiful decoration and attention to detail you’d expect from a high end restaurant. We ended up working our way through a lot of the menu over our three meals there. Parking is an issue. Expect to park way down the hill and wander up. Honestly. It’s worth it. The little village square can get very busy with lots of multigenerational groups (older members of the community as well as teenagers and lots of young children enjoying the space. This can make sitting outside a little hectic. If you’d prefer tranquility, sit under cover under the branches of beautiful tree. Great wine choices. Highlights include the bread (seriously. It’s amazing) and the Hünkârbeğendinand the baked cheesecake. Booking ahead is essential (although the shared ownership pizza/cocktail place attached s also lovely for a drink/pizza/waffles if you forget to book) There’s a very average restaurant very close that I’d avoid.

The biggest surprise in Lefkada so far! We were recommended to visit the village of Katouna by family and booked a table in a local restaurant so we can have dinner there but we did not expect it would be one of the best experiences during our stay! Great atmosphere, staff was incredibly polite and helpful and the food was surreal for what you would pay. We loved it so much we’re coming back for one of the two remaining nights we have in Lefkada! Of you ever visit the island Mastelo is worth your time!

We decided to try this restaurant as we have been going to the square for drink and this restaurant was next door. This place was gorgeous, The food was brilliant the bread, starters we both had the cheese which was beautiful. My husband and daughter had the inside skirt which was done how they want and my other daughter had the chicken which she also enjoyed. We only took one photo which was of the inside skirt The service was brilliant. We will definitely be coming back.
